A Well Earned Holiday

I had two weeks off work recently, and what a well earned holiday it was!

We had planned to head north to Queensland to meet up with my family and to simply just veg out for the rest of the time.

Usually, when we head north, we will stay at the Gold Coast or in Brisbane.  This time we decided to stay at Margate, a suburb north of Brisbane and on the coast of Moreton Bay.  Thanks to a website called AIRBNB we found a one bedroom unit that was just perfect!  Converted from office space on the ground floor of a private home, it was so comfortable!  That whole area of Margate/Redcliffe is great!  Along the foreshore of Redcliffe there are many restaurants and shops.  There is also a great walking path along the foreshore with many picnic tables and public BBQs.

Redcliffe has a huge jetty which is the focal point of the area.  An evening stroll on the jetty at sunset with a slight sea breeze blowing is just the ticket after dinner and a couple of wines!

Met up with my family in Brisbane.  My mum had recently moved into an aged care facility and there were still boxes of stuff at my brothers' house that needed to be sorted.  That was a great day; catching up with my brothers and sisters, having a few drinks and going through the years of memories in those boxes.  I ended up bringing home many many photographs that need to be sorted

and scanned; big project coming up!  I also added to my collection of vintage cameras.  In one of the boxes was an Emi K 35mm camera, brought for my dad by my brother Leo; still in excellent condition!  I have a film ready to put through it as well!

After 5 nights at Margate, we headed south and, as planned, did not have any plans.  Down the Mt Lindesay Hwy from Brisbane to the Summerland Way and onto Kyogle.  What a beautiful trip that is; rural scenes and rainforests!  The distinctive shape of Mt Lindesay dominating the horizon for the majority of the trip.  Arrived at Kyogle just before sunset and then onto the Bruxner Hwy for overnight at Ballina.  Down the Pacific Hwy for  2 nights at Coffs Harbour where Kim met an Aunt and some cousins she had not met before.  From there onto Port Macquarie for a night of dining with our daughter-in-laws' parents and omigod! the BEST Lamb Shanks I have ever had, washed down with a lovely Cab Sav!

Arrived home to 2 crazy dogs who had missed us (and we had missed them too!)  Went back to work last Wednesday.... same stuff going on, nothing changed - bah humbug!  Why can't I be on permanent holidays?

Anyway, got some great photos!
