Road Trip - March 2025 - #1

A bit late putting these up but still, better late than never!

In March we went on a road trip. We took our dogs with us and stayed in dog friendly accommodation, which is getting very popular!

From Newcastle, we went down the South Coast of New South Wales to Bangalee, Kianga and Kanoona, crossed over into Victoria, drove around the SE corner of Australia to Metung (Lakes Entrance), up through the middle of Vic and NSW along the Great Alpine Way to Bright, over to the Murray Valley Highway to Bundalong (Lake Mulwala, Yarrawonga), north to Forbes, Parkes, Dubbo and, Gulgong, and visited a lot of places in between before arriving home. We were gone for about 3 weeks.

The first half of our trip was magical. The South Coast of NSW and the Lakes Entrance area in Victoria has so much to offer. The weather held out for us pretty good with just a little rain at Lakes Entrance!  The countryside is so green!

Unfortunately, when we hit Bundalong on the Murray Valley Highway, the weather was warming up into an early Autumn heat wave, the country was starting to brown off and became dusty was the further north we travelled.

We had a couple of nights booked in Griffith NSW but when we arrived we were very disappointed with our accommodation (old, worn out and aircon not working properly)  The temperature at that time had peaked at about 41°C so we decided to cut our losses there, forfeited a nights payment and moved on to Forbes. By the time we got to Forbes, it was down to about 37° C. Our Motel accommodation there was very comfortable with a working aircon!  We got out and about for a couple of hours for a look around but when it got too much we returned to our accommodation and aircon!

Arrived in Parkes to a cool change blowing through and it was soooo welcome!  Parkes is a lovely country town.

We were going to stay 3 nights at Dubbo but shortened it to 2.  We'd been there before and visited all of the local attractions.  Kim caught up with an old school friend and we did some walks around town and down by the river.

On arriving home I found I had taken nearly 1000 photos!  It's not hard to do!  I still have about 300 left to cull and edit.  I figured I should put some up now and the rest later.

What a beautiful village Candelo is.  It was about a 10 minute drive from our Kanoona
Airbnb accommodation.  We had a great breakfast here while catching up with our
neighbours from Canberra whom we had not seen for about 30 years.

Kanon is in the Bega Valley, and not far from the town of Bega. It's a beautiful area!
